John Newman
Director of Coaching

John Newman assumed the role of Director of Coaching for Princeton Soccer Association in the spring of 2009.  John brings to the club a wealth of knowledge of all aspects of soccer from the perspective of both player and coach.  He played both professional and semi-professional soccer in England with Shrewsbury Football Club and the Southport Football Club, respectively.  While winding down his professional career, John began coaching with Lickers Lane Pathway Partnership (Knowsley Council).

Upon arrival in the US, John worked for a number of training organizations prior to starting his own successful soccer coaching company, Advanced Total Soccer.  John is a firm believer in coach education, personally pursuing all of NSCAA’s highest coaching licenses.  In 2008, John passed the NSCAA Master Coach Diploma with Distinction, 1 of only 10 coaches in the US to earn this honor.  John then completed the prestigious UEFA ’A’ License in Spring 2010.  John is now working toward the world-renowned UEFA Pro License.

Since his start with PSA, John has focused upon restructuring the club’s programs and improving the quality of the professional coaching staff.  After identifying the need for greater development in the younger players within PSA, John transformed the volunteer-based House Recreational league into the professionally-coached program now known as the Development Center (DC).  He then transformed the problem-riddled Travel Development Academy (TDA) into our current Elite Futures Soccer Academy (EFSA).  The EFSA is overseen and coached by senior coaches with the highest level of experience and qualification.  Continuing his pursuit of excellence, John then proceeded to add a ’Premier" level of travel teams to supplement the club’s prestigous Super Y League Program.   As a result, the PSA U20 Women were named North American Champions in 2010 and the U15 North American Boys took the championship in 2011.

John currently oversees all PSA programing while also coaching the PSA Premier 95/96 U16 Boys and Premier 98/99 U13 Boys teams.  During the summer of 2012, John will also be head coach in the USL PDL League with Central Jersey Spartans.
