Princeton Soccer Association is a member of the Super Y-League (SYL). The SYL is a national youth soccer league operated by United Soccer Leagues (USL) and affiliated with U.S. Soccer. The SYL offers a competitive competition calendar with member clubs that are required to implement league wide minimum standards for competition, player development, administration and overall professionalism.

The 2010 SYL campaign is anticipated to feature around 600 teams within the U13 – U17 boys and girls age groups, competing within eight geographic divisions of the U.S. and Canada. Typically, the top few teams in the each Division advance to the Super Y-League National Finals held annually in November in Tampa, Florida. Here the qualifiers challenge against other Divisional representatives for the National Championship.

Both US Soccer and US Olympic Committee has sanctioned the Super Y League National Finals and Olympic Development Program (ODP) National Camps as official ODP Events. The League serves as a means of identifying players for US Youth National Teams.

The SYL contains the youth academies of USL First Division, USL Second Division, Premier Development League, W-League, and Major League Soccer clubs, as well as many of the nations established premier youth clubs.

The primary goal of the league is to provide a platform for elite players to develop and be identified.

Princeton Soccer Association’s SYL Program

Princeton Soccer Association has secured a membership agreement with the SYL through the 2012 season. Princeton Soccer Association competes in the Mid Atlantic Division, playing the season schedule from April to July against teams from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland.

Princeton Soccer Association will field the following teams in the 2010 Super Y-League season.

The SYL is a important part of the Princeton Soccer Association season calendar as it offers consistent high quality competition.

“The Super Y-League provides an opportunity for our players to learn to excel in a pressurized environment,” stated Director of Coaching, John Newman. “Players naturally develop at a faster pace by playing against the best competition. The games are an excellent means to challenge, motivate and improve our teams, coaches and players.”

The Director of Coaching and coaches will evaluate and monitor the performance and development of teams and individual players throughout the season. The individual team training programs will be adjusted based upon the observations to further aid and expedite player development. The goal is for Princeton Soccer Association players to consistently develop the skill sets to play college soccer and beyond.

The league also provides a potential fast track route for Princeton Soccer Association top players to gain ODP recognition. Players are observed during games and those that consistently excel throughout the season may be selected to represent the Mid Atlantic Division select teams at the ODP National Camp in Cocoa Beach, Florida.
