As a player, Ryan made over 50 appearances for current Premier League side Swansea City and was part of the 'golden generation' of youth soccer for the Republic of Ireland in the late 1990's.He won the U18 European Championships in 1998 and played in the U20 World Cup in Nigeria in 1999 with a squad that included players such as Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy, Tottenham and Liverpool) and Damien Duff (Chelsea).
Ryan landed in New Jersey and hit the ground running. He attended the '02 Boys U16 Eastern Regional League games in Virginia this weekend and was impressed by what he saw out on the field. The boys won all three of their games scoring twenty goals and conceding zero. Ryan said: "It was good to be able to see the boys in games before I start coaching with them this week. It was nice to get to meet the players and the parents and I'm looking forward to getting to work."
We are excited to have Ryan on board with us at PSA and he has set his sights high for the future. Ryan said: "I'm really excited to be here at PSA and I'm fired up for the challenge. I've heard fantastic things about the club and I'm looking forward to working with all the coaches, players and parents and driving the club forward to be successful on and off the pitch. During my playing experience and as a coach for over 15 years, I hope to put my own stamp on things. I want to use my experience to implement a clear playing philosophy at the club that promotes an attacking, exciting style of soccer, resulting in success for the players and teams on and off the field."
PSA Executive Director, Ollie Hilliker, commented on Ryan's appointment, "Ryan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the PSA family. He is an amazing coach educator and will continue to enhance the level of the product that the PSA coaching staff produces on the field. In addition, Ryan's attention to detail and intricacies in his coaching style will provide our players the opportunity to reach their full potential."
